Interpreter's Code of Ethics
1. Confidentiality: The interpreter shall treat condfedential all information learned in the performance of their professional duties, while observing relevant requirements regarding disclosures.
2. Accuracy and Completeness: The interpreter shall render messages faithfully conveying the spirit of the original message while taking into consideration its cultural context.
3. Impartiality: The interpreter shall maintain impartiality and shall not counsel, advise, or project personal biases and beliefs.
4. Professional Boundaries: The interpreter shall maintain the boundaries of the professional role, refraining from personal involvement.
5. Cultural Competence: The interpreter shall develop awareness of their own and other cultures in order to promote cross-cultural understanding.
6. Professional Integrity: The interpreter shall demonstrate professionalism and personal integrity. The interpreter shall strive to continually further their knowledge and skills.
7. Advocacy: Only and only when the client's health, well being, or dignity is at risk.
